Discover Attabad Lake
Attabad Lake is one of the most strikingly beautiful lakes in the world — a dazzling expanse of turquoise-blue water framed by sheer red-brown mountains and the ancient Karakoram Highway. Formed in 2010 when a massive landslide blocked the Hunza River, the lake stretches for 21 kilometres through the narrow valley. The colour of the water — an almost unreal aquamarine — is caused by the glacial melt and mineral composition of the mountains above. Boat rides on the lake, tunnel drives through the former submerged KKH section, and lakeside camps make Attabad an unmissable stop on any Hunza itinerary.
Things to Do
Travel Tips
- Visit early morning for mirror-still water and the best reflections.
- The lake is usually combined with a Hunza Valley trip.
